MURDERER
This is the version of Murderer that I frequently play. I don't know if you've played according to the following rules, but my friends and I have darn lots of fun playing this.
YOU'LL NEED:
A pack of playing cards
SETTING UP:
Designate three cards as the Murderer, Detective and Medic. Other cards shall designate players as Civilians.
ROLES:
MURDERER: kill as many people as possible without being caught by others by winking at the person(s). If you wink at the Detective, too bad
DETECTIVE: catch the murderer. Once three Civilians have been killed, you have to point the finger!
MEDIC: save Civilians who have been killed by the Murderer by winking at them. If he hits you . . . good luck
HOW TO PLAY:
1. Everybody will sit in a circle. Someone will mix the cards in the centre. The number of cards used should tally the number of players in the game. Once ready, each player will pick a card. The role-playing cards would have been designated. While reading one's card, be very secretive and don't let anybody know your identity! After that, keep the card with you during the game, with the symbol side facing downwards.
2. If you have been "killed" by the Murderer, flip your card and expose it.
3. If you have been "saved" by the Medic, flip your card back again.
4. While Civilians are being killed, the Medic should save people, while the Detective should try to figure out who the Murderer is.
5. Once three Civilians are dead, the game ends and the Detective must uncover the Murderer. If he does so, he's the winner. If he fails to do so, and accuses the wrong person, he loses.
RULES:
1. It's up to you to appoint your own rules as to how each player ought to blink. For easier distinction, we may get the Murderer to blink once, and the Medic to blink twice. To make it even more exciting (and to confuse the Detective much more effectively) both role-players can simply blink once.
2. If you're not sure whether the Murderer killed you, stay put. Confirm again.
TWISTS:
There are twists and turns to make the game more exciting:
1. Delayed death: when the Murderer winks at you, don't flip your card instantly. Do it at a time when it may confuse the Detective (if you're thinking of sabotaging him)!
2. Playing witness: shout "I saw killing/saving in action!"
3. Staring right into people's eyes – imagine the adrenalin as you try hard not to blink especially when you're not the Murderer/Medic, and you're so afraid the person staring at you may suddenly blink (while you're still alive)!
